I had a lot of fun reading LOCKJAW #3 tonight. Lockjaw and D-Man continue teleporting around to meet up with our title character's long-forgotten siblings (like Bixby in #1 and the Beast in #2). This latest long-lost sister is Doc Jaw.
She has been living in Spider-Ham's dimension for many years. As everyone knows (Jon's Note: Don't we??), this dimension is surrounded by an anthropomorphic field that's made it so that animals walk and talk like humans. Doc Jaw eventually was evolved by this dimension's energy and she's now a talented scientist.
We finally learn in this issue why Doc Jaw has been signaling to Lockjaw and why he has been visiting his various siblings. Annihilus attacked Laval Earth, seriously injuring Mooster Fantastic and causing lots of mayhem. She's figured out that Annihilus has one of her siblings under his control and is using that dog to attack other dimensions. Apparently, he plans to capture their other siblings and using this extra power whole planets into the Negative Zone and kill all of the people within!
Doc Jaw plans to help Lockjaw remember how he managed to send his lost brother or sister into the Negative Zone all of those years ago and then launch a rescue mission.
Of course, she needs to explore his mindscape and memories. And Doc wants D-Man to join him in order to keep him focused. Apparently, there's a reason that Lockjaw has kept D-Man with him during this adventure. Lockjaw has bonded with D-Man. He's claimed him as his emotional support human (but not in a fully ADA-protected way). But it's all good.
Soon enough, the two are off to the Dreamscape where they encounter a nightmare from D-Man's past -- and the Sleepwalker(!!). Have I mentioned that I LOVE THE SLEEPWALKER??? Not only that, but he has a dog named Dogwalker(!!). Is s/he another long-lost brother or sister to Lockjaw? Or just another potential Pet Avenger?
By the way, check out this inhaler that Doc gives D-Man. Do you suppose this will be the tool to give our d-list hero back his powers? I do. But we'll know for certain next month!
