Mayor Broderson swore in the new city councilors and thanked the outgoing council members at last night's City Council Meeting. It was then time for public comment and the public comments were pretty mundane
And that's when the fun began...
Then the jingle-bells began clanging followed by a "Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas!" from off-camera. Someone dressed as Santa Claus entered the room carrying a huge bag. Santa pulled out a present for Mayor Broderson and offered the following commentary:
I'd like to give the Mayor some candy kisses for all the grief and aggravation that you've had to do this year. The way that you handled everything and way that you've done it with grace and beauty. I wish you a Merry ChristmasMayor Broderson thanked Santa and any other elf would have taken this cue to leave the Council Chamber. But Santa persisted...
He then pulled out a Milky Way candy bar for Alderman Bob Bynum, who wasn't at last night's meeting, and then began passing out lumps of coal to the rest of City Council members and to the City Administrator.
People began objecting once the coal came out and Santa was escorted from the meeting. City Administrator Gregg Mandsager then announced that Santa has now been banned from City Hall for six months.
