A Hawk Alert went out earlier this evening with the following message:
So this happened in Iowa City. Linn and College are right downtown.
It quickly became clear that there probably wasn't much of substance behind this report. One local television station sent a producers to downtown Iowa City and shared that there didn't seem to be any signs of gunfire in the area.
Sure enough, the City of Iowa City sent out a community-wide email not to long ago:
Report of shots fired from a black Camry with an Illinois license plate in the area of Linn and College. Stay clear of the area.

On 11/11/17, at approximately 5:13 p.m., Iowa City Police officers responded to the area of 100 S. Linn St. in reference to a report of the sound of gunshots. It was also reported that a black Toyota Camry was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officers canvassed the area and were able to locate several people who also heard what sounded like gunshots. As of now, no victims, damage, nor evidence has been located.In other words, somebody's car probably backfired or something.
