Doctor Who #5 Peter Davison: Female Doctor Is a "Loss of Role Model for Boys"

"Doctor Who" fandom is still reeling from this weekend's announcement that Jodie Whittaker has been cast as the newest Doctor. Either they love it or they hate it. I mean, the Doctor can't have boobs, can she? (Jon's Answer: She can and she will.)

Anyway, I saw an article about former "Doctor Who" star, Peter Davison, who has expressed some amount of dismay that the Doctor will be a woman in the near future:
Peter Davison said she is a “terrific actress” but that he has doubts that she is right for the role. He said before an appearance at at Comic-Con in San Diego: “If I feel any doubts, it’s the loss of a role model for boys who I think Doctor Who is vitally important for.” The veteran actor then commented: “So I feel a bit sad about that, but I understand the argument that you need to open it up.” He also said that he prefers the idea of the doctor as “a boy”, but conceded this could be because he is “a dinosaur”.
I have to admit that I feel a bit sad about Davison's statements. He's "my" Doctor. I started watching the program way back in the late 70s when Tom Baker was still running the show. But I totally fell for the show when Peter Davison was cast as the Doctor in 1981. I loved his Doctor, especially when teamed up with Tegan, Nyssa, and Adric.

I can't help but feel sad about my dino-Doctor. But that's another reason why it's a good thing to avoid learning too much about your heroes...
