"Not Guilty" Pleas in Waterloo Dog Starvation/Animal Cruelty Case

This past February, some workers in Waterloo, IA, found a portable dog kennel abandoned along the road. They found a severely emaciated deceased dog instead. The dog was covered in feces and urine and looked like it had died from either starvation or dehydration, which it turned out it had. A Jessup, IA, man named Ty Hickman was arrested a couple weeks later and charged with one misdemeanor charge of animal torture. A couple weeks later, two others, A.J. Sellers and Kelsey Block were also arrested and charged with the same charge.

According to court records, Hickman owned the poor dog and he stored the dog at Seller's home. According to court records, none of these three people had fed or watered the dog since 01/15/13. The dog was found dead on 02/16/13. All three were released from jail pending trial.

KGAN reported earlier today that all three individuals finally had their first day in court and all three plead "not guilty" to animal torture. Their trials are scheduled to begin this summer, but it wouldn't surprise me if this case gets pushed back a bit further into the future.
