AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE #10 was principally set during the night before the end of the world -- with plenty of flashbacks dating back to 1906. Because that's when Josie was born. This was an "Interview with the Vampire" inspired issue, with Josie granting an interview to a tabloid reporter.
She reveals that she was raised in an orphan with her three "sisters," Valerie, Melody, and Pepper. They were forced to work nonstop by their cruel matron, Alexandra Cabot. But they bonded over music and learned that worked went faster when you sang. One of the Alexandra's boyfriends heard the girls and decided to turn them into a traveling group: The Cabot Sisters!
Pepper eventually left the group and the remaining Cabot Sisters were introduced to a handsome man named Henry Irving. Irving had money and power and an eye for the 17-year-old Josie McCoy. He invited the three young women to a party that looked like something out of "The Great Gatsby" and offered Josie immortality. Without thinking, she accepted his offer. Her mortality was ripped from her. She then shared this gift to Valerie and Melody.
The three women were now children of the night: vampires!
Josie, Valerie, and Melody went through a cycle of reinventing themselves, feasting, disappearing from the public eye and then returning again. They were the GI Dolls. They were the Teen Queens. They were the Velvettes. They were the Queens of Disco. They were the Sugar & Spice Girls. They were Twilight's Child. And eventually they became Josie and the Pussycats: "high school band turned international pheno!"
One bit of Pussycat history that's interesting. The Three Sisters were friends of Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate. They were at the home shortly after Sharon Tate and her friends were slaughtered by Charles Manson... I mean, slaughtered by Henry Irving!
The interview ends as one might expect and we learned that the Pussycats are heading Riverdale USA for a benefit concert. On the eve of the Apocalypse!
I can't help wondering what things will look like when vampires meet zombies!
