150,000 Rainbow Trout Evacuated by Iowa DNR from Elkador Hatchery Due to Flooding

It's raining so much in northeast Iowa that even the fish are being evacuated! I learned yesterday that roughly 150,000 rainbow trout have been evacuated from the Big Spring Hatchery in Elkader, IA, due to flooding along the Turkey River:
The DNR says it takes 15 months to raise trout for stocking, so the move was needed to make sure it had a supply of fish for the rest of this year and into next year. Fish from the Big Spring Hatchery supply 15 different coldwater streams in the area.
The trout were evacuated to other hatcheries in Manchester and Decorah.
