There is an effort to ban conversion therapy in Iowa for people under the age of 18. Advocates from the Youth Advisory Council are pressing the Iowa Board of Medicine to ban the effort outright. The board decided against administratively barring it and instead set up a subcommittee to study the topic.

“I would encourage you to be very careful about limiting the therapy that is available to parents and children who are perhaps struggling with the same sex attractions that they don’t want,” said vice president, Chuck Hurley. “There are those who do want help with those things and for you to limit and punish doctors who offer that would be a big mistake.”Yes, it would be a mistake to stop convincing LGBT teens that they are mentally ill and morally suspect through conversion therapy and electro-shock treatment. (That's saracasm, btw...)
