Iowa's Number One in Wind-Generated Power Production!!

This was pretty interesting news. Iowa is first in the nation with wind-generated power production!! WindTech International reports that wind power generation increased by 17% last year and produced more than 10% of the electricity in nine states. Most of those states appear to be here in the American Midwest. Wanna know which state is producing the most wind-generated power? It's Iowa!
The growth in wind energy in the USA can also be seen in its increasing role in the generation mix of individual states. Iowa and South Dakota reached generation levels greater than 20% throughout the entire year of 2012. In a total of 14 states, American wind energy provides 5% or more of generation. Iowa was ranked first in wind generation, with 24.5% generation from wind energy. South Dakota was second with 23.9% generation from wind energy. North Dakota ranked third Minnesota closely followed, ranking fourth with over 14% wind energy generation. Kansas, which doubled its installation of wind power during 2012, jumped ahead to number 5 position in wind generation, surpassing the 10% mark, reaching 11.4% generation from wind energy.
It doesn't surprise me that Iowa is doing well with wind-generated power. A quick cross-state drive on I-80 or north on I-35 will treat one to miles upon miles of giant wind turbines. Iowa City has a few smaller turbines operating within city limits. There is a new one outside of Decorah up in the northeast edge of the state. I'm sure there are many more throughout Iowa.

Congrats to Iowa (as well as South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Kansas) for leading the pack in clean energy!
