Since then, I've written many posts about the game, its features, and its seasonal updates. Then last week I wrote about the game's upcoming demise. Which made me sad.
My sadness was temporarily halted last week when I discovered that you could buy-in one final character: Clay Walker!
Clay Walker is a character from the now-canceled LIFE WITH ARCHIE series. He was introduced in LIFE WITH ARCHIE #16 when he married an adult Kevin Keller. Clay later got shot in LWA #22, but eventually got better.
There were indications in June 2014 that he was being added to the game. But he wasn't. The "Riverdale Rescue" folks eventually told me that "perfection takes time! We definitely haven't forgotten about Clay, and we'll also have some other content just for Kevin in our next updates."
Personally, I think that they were just putting me off. My hunch is that they couldn't figure out how to introduce an adult gay character to the game and have him interact with his future gay husband who still happens to be a teen!
Regardless, I was literally cheering in my bedroom when I woke to news that Clay Walker was finally in "Riverdale Rescue!" I wrote about it on Facebook and even called Riverdale Podcast to share the news with Jonathan!
I put off writing about Clay and "Riverdale Rescue" until I got a better handle on his storyline. I finally finished Clay's Quests. And his story is Kevin's story... almost literally.
Here is Clay's general storyline: He arrives in Riverdale and has a meal at Pop Tate's. He then goes to the school and meets some people. Betty sees him and develops a huge crush. Clay confides in Jughead that he is gay and that he doesn't want to upset Betty, because he knows that she has a crush on him. Jughead and Ethel eventually break the news to Betty. Betty and Clay bond (despite her unrequited crush) and become BFFs.
Replace Clay with Kevin and Betty with Veronica (plus, add in a scene where Clay and Jughead have a all-you-can-eat food contest) and this is pretty much Kevin Keller's intro story that has been recycled for Clay Walker.
Which pretty much reinforces my belief that they had no clue what to do with Clay Walker after they decided to include him in the game! Still, it's nice to have Clay around. I'm enjoying the opportunity to ship Kevin and Clay together in the game.
All that's to say: Thanks "Riverdale Rescue" for two years of fun preoccupation and for bringing one of my favorite comic book couples back together for one final adventure!
