X-Men's Northstar is an Illegal Immigrant

Back in November, I noted that ASTONISHING X-MEN's Northstar and his new husband Kyle Jindu-Beaubier were facing a new personal foe: U.S. Immigration officials. At the time, it didn't make a lot of sense that they were hassling our favorite homo-speedster:
I'm not sure why the I.C.E. agents are focused so much on Jean-Paul (AKA Northstar). I mean, there is a school-full of international mutants in upstate New York -- one who was just whisked into the States from Brazil just earlier this month. My point is that Jean-Paul is an international professional athlete and a teacher. It's unlikely that he's able to work professionally in the States without some sort of work visa.
Check out this image from ASTONISHING X-MEN #59, which summarizes in one panel why Northstar is screwed:

It turns out that Northstar has been living and working in the United States of America illegally for years. Every time he worked as a teacher for the Xavier Institute or the Jean Grey School or anytime he came here to work for his private corporation, anytime he came here for any reason at all, he was here illegally. No passport. No visa. No luck.

Among other things, Kyle and Northstar have begun fighting over whether they should stay in New York and fight or if they should just go home to Canada. Presumably, Kyle can do this as he has a passport and has worked in Quebec in the past.
