Pat Robertson: Get Out of Gay-Friendly Churches!

CBN's "The 700 Club" made a dig against gay-affirming churches yesterday. It happened during the program's Bring It On segment.

Co-host Wendy Griffith shared the following question by a woman named Myrtle: "I have been a member of my church for 47 years. Recently, I have been asked to be an elder. However, my church has accepted to perform same-sex marriages if asked to. Because of my conviction of the Biblical definition of marriage, I would like your opinion of whether I should decline this position before elder training begins in two weeks or leave my church."

Here is Pat's response:
Pat Robertson: The Bible says “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” You can’t agree to that stuff and I think it’s time you walk. You don’t want to be an elder… a leader of a church that believes that way. Their views are contrary to what you believe are the importance of the Bible and you want to find someplace that’s compatible you. That’s all.

So the answer is: Don’t become an elder and get out of there!

Wendy Griffith: That’s right! *Laughs*
Am I the only person who questions Myrtle's situation? I mean, she has been a member of a church for nearly half a century. It's affirming enough that they are open to officiating gay weddings. That implies that they have had LGBT people present -- if not members -- for a while. After all, most churches don't make the leap from non-affirming to hosting gay weddings overnight.

Either way, it's just one more opportunity for Pat Robertson to tell LGBT people that we don't have a place at the Table. It's a good reminder for us to know where we stand with the majority of Christianity.
