(Originally written on 02/17/13): This story definitely is a downer. Waterloo Animal Control is currently investigating a case of animal cruelty after a severely emaciated dog was found dead yesterday morning outside of its Waterloo, IA, kennel. Check out these sad details:
Waterloo Animal Control is looking for any information surrounding a animal cruelty investigation where a dog was found dead in a kennel Saturday morning. Animal Control and the Reinbeck-based organization Agape Fosters said the dog was covered in feces and urine and had looked like it died from either starvation or dehydration. Both said it looked like the dog had been kept in its kennel for quite a while.
$1,000 is being offered to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever did this to this poor animal. Please contact Agape Fosters (319-239-2268) or Waterloo Animal Control (319-235-5535) if you know anything about this case.

Updated on 02/18/13: The reward in this case has now been increased to $1,200. Unfortunately, there is no culprit yet. But the authorities are still looking:
“There’s been some leads come in, but nothing concrete,” (Diana Helmers of Agape Fosters) said. “We just want to keep the story out there, keep it alive. Someone has to know. More than one person had to know this. You can’t keep a dog that large hidden. Someone had to hear it. Someone had to see it.” It’s obvious the dog was held for some time in the pet carrier and died there, Helmers said, given the amount of feces inside.
Please contact the numbers listed above if you know anything about this case of animal cruelty.
