Roughly a month ago, Iowa City and Coralville residents woke up to news that Coralridge Mall was locked down after an armed man drove his car through the Scheels entrance and into the store. Coralville Police arrested 23-year-old Joseph Moreno and charged him with multiple crimes after he shot up his apartment and then allegedly drove into Scheels and tried out a few additional weapons. He then apparently passed out in the store, where he was discovered by police.
Yesterday, KCJJ and the Press-Citizen both reported that Moreno finally got his chance to respond to his legal charges. JosephMoreno pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including drunken driving, first degree burglary, reckless use of a firearm, reckless use of a firearm with property damage, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon.
According to news reports, Moreno does not remember entering Scheels, nor does he remember what he did while he was inside the store. Unfortunately, there are surveillance cameras within that store and most likely they were on so even if Moreno doesn't remember what happened within the store, there likely will be a video trail of what happened within the store that evening!
